About Me

I’m a software-engineer-turned-dim-sum-chef-turned-cybersecurity-student. My experiences have given me a multitude of skill across technology to the kitchen. My previous experience being the desk has gifted me with skills in full stack development and a solid understanding of cloud technologies. My time at culinary school ahs given me skills to create all sorts of tasty treats! I’m currently exploring the world of cybersecurity and I’m excited to see where it leads!

Experience

CyberSecurity Student at SAIT

January 2026 to Current

I’m currently studying Cybersecurity at SAIT! It’s quite interesting to learn more about how the networking side of computing works, especially with doing so much development using APIs. As the world becomes more connected each day, I’m excited to learn skills that will help protect people in the future. I’m also excited to learn some ethical hacking and see how to use that to create more secure systems!

Culinary Graduate at NWCAV

May 2024 to April 2025

I had the opportunity to study at the Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver! I knew one day I would want to try and go explore my passion for food, and I took some time to study the ins and outs of the kitchen. I started with the pastry program and learned a lot about baking pastries and cakes, then moved onto the culinary program. I was fortunate enough to do my co-op at Northwest as well! It was a fantastic experience and I am honoured to work with such an amazing team of people. Going to culinary school was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made but I’m glad I took the leap and decided to go for it. I’m happy to have met so many people, classmates and chefs and am excited to see what I cook up in the future! Stay tuned!

Associate Developer at IBM

July 2021 to May 2024

I was an Associate Developer at IBM! It was a pleasure not only developing code, but also to be involved in the consulting aspects of projects as well. I’ve had the pleasure of developing in several different environments during my time at IBM. I worked on full stack projects using spring boot, Kafika streams and MongoDB to process and manage bank client account data. I even had the opportunity to work on a few Swift projects, as well as other Cloud technologies like Google Cloud and Azure. I’m thankful for my time at IBM!

S.W.A.T. Developer at IBM

May 2019 to April 2021

I had the privilege to be part of the Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) Team at IBM Markham. As a S.W.A.T. Team developer intern, I helped manage a full stack application that used Angular JS, Node.JS and Dockers. My other responsibilities included managing the team’s websites which were built and managed on a WebSphere Application Server (WAS). Through presenting and delivering workshops to clients and students, I also became familiar with the IBM cloud tools, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning with IBM Watson. This internship provided many amazing experiences! I assisted the team in presenting EVOKE CASCON, which is a convention combining academia and industry with 1000+ attendees (that’s where the picture you see here of me and my team is from). I traveled to Montreal and Ottawa to deliver workshops for my team and even had the opportunity to go to Chicago to present a workshop on IBM Watson tools! I’m very thankful for the opportunity to not only learn more about emerging technology, but to also meet many fascinating individuals pioneering the next ideas to change the world.

IBM Intern Hackathon

July 2019

During my internship at IBM, I participated in the IBM North America Hackathon. My team won first place in the Canadian division with our concept, the Smart Food Saver (SFS). The SFS utilizes IBM Machine Learning to analyse food waste being produced by small businesses to determine how much food and ingredients should be ordered to minimize waste. It factors in how much the business might sell of certain item using data from the Weather Company. Not only did we work on something that is very close to me (my parents owned a café), but I also got to use Machine Learning and AI in a practical application. Also, first place comes with iPad Minis so that didn’t hurt either.

Schulich Ignite

May 2017 to July 2018

I helped start Schulich Ignite, a club at the University of Calgary that aims to inspire students in programming. We recruit high school students with no programming experience and teach them how to code. By choosing Processing, a very visual and artistic framework for Java, we aim for the student to be able to play around and teach them that coding is fun! The goal of the club is to ignite their passion for programming, pun fully intended. I mentored the students during the years I participated, and in my last year I was a co-president of the club and helped run administrative duties.

My Projects

ANT BLAZE Wildfire Detection

ProjectPicture

September 2020 - April 2021

Created using: HTML, CSS, React, Node.JS, React Bootstrap, React Native, Mongo DB

For the capstone project in my final year of my Software Engineering undergraduate degree, I helped build a net work of sensors to help detect wildfires in the Kananaskis area in Alberta. The system consisted of small sensors that were connected to each other via the ANT Blaze wireless protocol. If the sensors detected temperatures or gas levels above the threshold, they would send an alarm across the network to a gateway device. This gateway device would then send the alarm information up to cloud, where then dashboard clients would then be updated. I worked in the frontend dashboards of the project, which consisted of a browser desktop dashboard as well as a mobile phone application. I also developed the website design and project video. It was an amazing experience working across a multidisciplinary team consisting of mechanical, electrical and software disciplines. We won first place in the Multidisciplinary category as well!

World Exploration

ProjectPicture

September 2020 - December 2020

Created using: HTML, CSS, React, Node.JS, Mongo DB, Google Maps API

World Exploration is a full stack application game that I created for my Web Technologies course. The aim of the game is to correctly guess where in the world you are looking at! We use Google Map API to show locations in StreetView, and the closer you guess to the location that is shown to you the more points that you will receive. There is a single player mode, or several multiplayer modes to play as well. You can challenge your friends head on with a competitive mode or play co-operatively where everyone guesses based on the same location. Finally, there is a one-on-one mode where instead of automatically generating locations, each player can choose where to drop the other on the planet! It was fun to come up with a game based on travelling, especially as the world was in lockdown during this time.

ProjectPicture

Deployed on February 28th, 2019

Created using: HTML, CSS, React, Node.JS

I decided to start a project to create a website, just for fun! As an added bonus, it has also taught me quite a bit about web technologies! It’s a great opportunity for me to practice my HTML and CSS skills, as well as my front-end design (this is built using React as a framework with Bootstrap). I aim to continually update, redesign and improve, not only the content, but the user experience of this site as well. Stay tuned for changes!

Blockwork Circuits

ProjectPicture

Developed Summer 2017

Created using: Java, Android Studio

This was a small game that I created under an NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) grant. The aim of the game is to draw paths to lead the black square to the red squares, which helps visualize problems that can happen when trying to optimize the clock in modern circuits. I enjoyed this project because it was a great experience to develop designs and ideas independently and end up with a final project that I could show on my phone!
